Venus, the embodiment of love, is standing in an open shell, which in the epoch of Middle Ages was a symbol of femininity, literally, the female womb. A ribbon in her hair adds to the image of chastity. On the left (to the right from Venus) there is a couple, the god of the west wind Zephyrus and his wife Flora, the goddess of flowers. Their marriage embodies inseparable unity of bodily passion and love.
On the right (on the shore) there is Horae, the daughter of Zeus and Themis. She symbolizes innocent divine love. On Horae’s neck there is myrtle, the symbol of eternal feelings, and behind her there is an orange tree, the symbol of immortality.
She is meeting Venus and wants to cover her chaste virgin body with a purple mantle, then Venus will transform into a maternal divine image. Maternity without sexuality. She was not destined to experience all the charms of earthly pleasures.
