Gustav Klimt, 1902.
Emilie was a woman affection to whom Klimt carried throughout his life. It was her who was his good friend. It was next to her that he found peace. Paying tribute to the woman’s favourite business (she was the co-owner of the Floge Sisters fashion house and a talented fashion designer), the artist dressed her in a garment with a complex ornamented pattern in his iconic style. But what is more important in this painting by Gustav Klimt is how meticulously the artist painted Emilie’s face and hands. Researchers believe that such fine detailing indicates that he knew her face and hands perfectly well.
