Gustav Klimt, 1907-1908.
An ode to female attractiveness and sexuality. Interpretation of the famous ancient Greek myth about Acrisius, Zeus and Danae. The first character mentioned above was prophesized death at the hands of his grandson, so he believed the prophesy and imprisoned his daughter Danae. But Zeus was in love with the girl and got to the dungeon in the form of golden rain.
The choice of colour range makes the painting erotic but not vulgar. Klimt adored and respected feminine body – it is one of the central themes on the vast majority of his works.
