The shawl “Blossom” is flowered with Ukrainian naïve art – the flora of the Ukrainian village, steppe and forest, here you can see mallows and poppies, bluebells and lilies-of-the-valley, dahlias and daisies, and maybe some other flowers invented by an artist, which came from the heart!
The folk art of Ukrainians tells us so much about the true Ukrainian soul – indescribably creative, unique and just as lushly flowered. Despite absolutely inhuman treatment of the villagers by the then authorities, slave-like living conditions, creative impulses were ridiculed and forbidden even by parents and peers, artists were regarded as eccentric, and the party imposed its aggressive anti-Ukrainian narratives. In the midst of this cruelty, people managed to preserve and nurture their unique creativity of unfathomable heights. Folk painting is characterized by reflecting on the canvas the world that surrounded the artist, you can imagine what a strong core you need to have in order to notice the beautiful – herbs, blades of grass, flowers, birds, but not everything mentioned above.
Sophisticated authentic works reflect creative giftedness of the Ukrainian people. Folk naïve art is a talisman of national identity, an indicator of the high moral and esthetic qualities of the people.
