The frieze is Klimt’s artistic depiction of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the main idea of which is interpreted as overcoming suffering by the humanity on the way to happiness and love. The frieze expresses “hopes and desires of the mankind” and demonstrates that art leads people into the “ideal kingdom of pure pleasures, pure happiness and pure love”.
